After establishing multi-party democracy in 1991 Zambia is a state that has enjoyed a stable level of democracy and governance absent significant political violence and conflict. However the past decade has seen a steady decline in implementing effective economic policy, resource management and governance – leaving Zambia in a precarious state. The following analysis will use an evidence-based approach placing emphasis on the proximate and structural factors and conditions as the root cause of fragility. Using a dynamic profile of Zambia, key drivers and events will be identified to provide policy options to build institutions and further advance state resiliency
