Guest: Dr. Linda Freeman, a former professor of political science at Carleton University, and an expert on political affairs in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

About: In this episode we explore the recent political upheaval in the Southern African region, as the Presidents of both Zimbabwe and South Africa have been removed from office and replaced by their second in command. These neighbouring countries with such entrenched ruling parties, have seen the resignations of their leaders within weeks of each other. Both Robert Mugabe and Jacob Zuma were widely considered corrupt and ineffective leaders, so perhaps it’s not surprising that they were ultimately removed. Looking to the future, both Zimbabwe and South Africa have new Presidents, but it’s unclear what their leadership will bring to the region. Will Zimbabwe and South Africa prosper under positive reforms, or will it be more of the same with little difference?
