In partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and Global Affairs Canada (GAC), iAffairs Canada and Carleton University are hosting a conference on Democracy and Foreign Policy in an Era of Uncertainty. Speakers from across Canada and the Global South will examine the intricate interplay between democracy, international affairs, and the challenges faced in the defence and promotion of democracy at home and abroad. This conference will be a two-day event taking place on Monday, September 18 and 19. The first day (18th) will be an open, hybrid event with lunch, a key note, and a reception from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST. The second day (19th) is an invitation only event.

Register for the event here, space is limited!

This conference will prompt practical discussion on how Canadian expertise can support local efforts to advance and protect democratic institutions. Experts will draw out linkages between issues of democratic renewal in Canada and supporting democracy abroad, including for example through discussions of platform governance, AI, disinformation, diaspora networks, fragile states and populism.

Light refreshments and lunch will be provided. We are also pleased to note that events on the 18th will be a hybrid event.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a thought-provoking discourse that sheds light on the intricacies of democracy and its role in global diplomacy. Register now to secure your spot at the forefront of this vital conversation!
