Guest:  Dr. Simon Palamar, Research Fellow of Global Security and Politics at the Centre for International Governance Innovation

About: In this episode, we explore the fallout from the recent announcement of the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran Nuclear Deal. The deal, which was reached between Iran and the Permanent Members of the UN Security Council plus Germany in 2015, eases sanctions on Iran in exchange for a reduction in its nuclear capabilities and allowing inspection of its nuclear sites by the International Atomic Energy Agency. With the announced withdrawal, there is now a scramble by the remaining signatories to salvage the deal without U.S. involvement. Meanwhile, the withdrawal also casts a shadow over any future negotiations with North Korea on the same subject.

Simon Palamar joined CIGI’s Global Security & Politics Program in 2012. He holds a Ph.D from Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, an M.A. in global governance from the University of Waterloo, and a B.A. in history and peace and conflict studies.
