The panel discussion will explore Canada and China’s evolving relationship. A variety of themes will be covered including trade relations, military and security concerns, and Canada’s emerging Indo-Pacific Strategy. Our speakers will examine Canada’s foreign policy position with respect to China and how it can approach the bilateral relationship in the future.

A Q&A panel will be held at the end.

  • Served on the International Affairs Council of Advisors to Justin Trudeau before his election to Prime Minister
  • Esteemed career in the foreign service, including postings to the Canadian Embassy in Beijing, the Canadian Delegation to the UN in New York, and the Canadian Delegation to the European Community in Brussels

Dr. Jeremy Paltiel

  • Professor of Political Science at Carleton University
  • Head of the Carleton BRI Public Affairs Research Centre.
  • Has contributed numerous articles on Chinese politics, East Asian foreign relations, and Sino-Canadian relations

Peggy Mason

  • President of the Rideau Institute on International Affairs
  • Former Canadian Ambassador for Disarmament to the UN
  • Senior Fellow at The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs
