iAffairs is excited to hold an August 12 event on the future of Canadian foreign policy.

Register for the event here.

Join us for a panel discussion via webinar with Dr. Robert W. Murray, Dr. Heather Exner-Pirot, Dr. Jane Boulden, and Dr. Paul Gecelovsky.

This is an important discussion that addresses and explores Canada’s foreign policy in a shifting global order. The discussion will also refer to the recently published Palgrave Handbook of Canada in International Affairs, which is part of a series of books published by Carleton University and edited by Dr. David Carment, Dr. Philippe Lagassé, and Dr. Yiagadeesen Samy. More information about the series can be found through this hyperlink.

The global order is changing. The unipolar system based upon American hegemony is increasingly challenged by several states, including China, Russia, Iran, and Venezuela, among others, as is the willingness of the US to continue to lead. The current period of flux calls into question not only the material structure of the international system but also the normative underpinning of the liberal international order. These changes in global order present Canada with varying challenges and opportunities and necessitates a shift in Canadian foreign and defence policy interests and strategies.

This panel will gather together experts in Canadian foreign policy to address the transformation in global order and the implications for Canada.

A Q&A panel will be held at the end. This event is presented by iAffairs Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Foreign Policy Journal and Palgrave Macmillan, and is supported by the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs.
